$500 and you get a shirt and a dinner to go with 3 days of riding. Does this seem kinda expensive to anyone else?
Actually it isn't that out of line for a well managed stage race. Consider that it is about $2k for 7 days of racing TransRockies or BC Bike Race. If you are looking at it only as 3 days of riding then it does sound steep but there is more to it than a bunch of people getting together for a weekend of riding.
I am one of the many people I know that are looking forward to this race next year. Hopefully you can get over your cost issue and join us.
Here's a crazy thought - do this new race in the style of 4 Jokers/4 Queens in Whistler - one day is an x-c race, one day is a downhill, one day is a AM/enduro, but competitors have to do every stage on the same bike! (in whistler they also have a trials style stage)
I registered at 12:01 last night but somehow there were 4 names on the list as soon as the site opened. Pretty good early registration with over 65 registered in the first 10 hrs. It's going to be a fantastic event.

BCBR is $1500 if you can snag an early bird, which includes camping and all the crazy logistics that go along with organizing 7 day point to point stages w/ ferry transfers.
TR3 is $600, but I would imagine the logistics would warrant the extra $100 (point to point, transfers, UCI points, etc.). Though I am sure that the singletrack of the F3 would blow TR out of the water.
I race all the Alberta cup XC, but I just don't see the value in spending $160/day to race, when there are many great single day races for half the price! The "Hell of a Series", Kootenay Krusher, Hinton Marathon, the list could go on! I am sure that the course on any one of the F3 days could rival any of the events I listed above though. Unless, I can win an entry, I wont be racing, but I will probably ride the course if it is posted. Just my opinion
a hardtail, a 4" travel full suspension XC bike, a trail bike with 5" of travel or maybe an all mountain bike with 6"?
It would be a toss up. The uphills will be pretty tough so a 4 inch would be lighter and more agile for the tough ups, but the 5 inch would be better for the technical downs. And overall, the course over the 3 days actually looses about 2000 feet of elevation overall. A 6 incher would be out of the question for sure. I'd probably go with the 4 inch just because you'd make up more time on the ups with the lighter bike than you would with one inch more travel on the down. Maybe just put larger tires on the 4" bike.

Did I read the course route correctly that we do Hypervent twice?
That's right. on day 1 and on day 3. There are 2 great trails that come off of it. on day 1 you don't quite go all the way to the top and then veer off to do castle mountain. Weeee!

Registration has been open for a week and is 80% full. Only 44 solo and 2 person team spots left. If you are thinking of doing this one I would register soon.
