Why are replacing fork bushings consider hard?

its not hard at all, but it does require some very specific and expensive tools.
You will neet a bushing remover, installers and resizers

just pushed the bushing, which where in the freezer, in no problems. they were for 2005 boxxers. they went into 2004. no problems so far. i read up on the bushings and found out the top is the same as the 2004 but the bottom bushings were much longer. when i called rochshox they said they do not recommend put them in. i figured they were the same size in thickness.

i had no expensive tools but i got my bushings in/out relatively easy.
