is there a split and a seal on it?
could be a fork race that may not be required as some forks come with then built in to the steerer?

Youtube "mtb headset installation" you'll most likely come by one the same style as yours.

Surgeo 2 mock up with MTB cranks
Mock up of my second NS Surge EVO. my first was a long set up as a mini mullet trail bike.
This ones gonna be 26 for Old fart DJ,play jib, 4Xer. RS dual position pike 140/160 SS hope pro trials hubs two brakes. I haven't decided on BMX or MTB crank/drive so I'm more than likely gonna set up with MTB an then if the chain is too slack or tight I'll try the BMX drive with the half link chain.
