A good size to start would be 36T ring. But try 34 and 38, see which one you prefer. Feel the bike on each gear and see which best works for you. I'll post a pic of my set up tonight or tomorrow just to get an idea. I have an E13 SRS+ with a Turbo charger bash (32-36). Look it up, you might like it. You can also look up the E13 LG1+. The LG1+ is great if you'll have a colored ring. MRP also makes a variety of guides. There are so much out there, just pick whichever tickles your fancy Razz

It depends on your area and how long and steep your uphills are. Do you mind walking when it gets too much?
I run a 32 with an 11-34 cassette and I can climb pretty much everything I care to around Squamish but it is kinda tough sometimes. But I went to Calgary last week and rode some trails in Kananaskis and had to push a lot. On the flipside when I was in Australia I could get by with a 36t.
I'm considering going to 10 speed so I can gain an extra two teeth in the back to make the climbs easier. I'm eagerly waiting for a new 9-36 cassette to be available at a decent price as that will give me some better high gears as well which are definitely lacking with a 32t.

with the 32t in the front and the 11-34 cassette do you ever run out of gears when your going fast and would and mrp g2 steel be a good choice for a chain guide

I do run out of gears at times and it's a bit annoying as I tend to like pedaling at speed. I run a 40t on my DH bike. It's much less of a problem when riding in Squamish as there is not a lot of high speed stuff. On a recent visit to Calgary I rode a couple of trails where I found it annoying.

I run an MRP lopes and it's great. Also run G2 on my other bikes and have been happy.
