I have a 1994 Rocky Mountain Hammer with all original parts that I'm considering converting to single speed. It has a Shimano Parallax rear hub.

Most of the conversion kits on the market appear to be for 8/9 speed hubs. Would one of these work with some sort of additional spacer? Would that be a 4.5 mm spacer?

Also, the Rocky Mountain cranks are bent which has introduced a nasty wobble into the front chain rings. It would appear that they are square taper. What is my best option for an inexpensive single speed crankset? I'm open to changing out the bottom bracket if necessary.

Thanks!
