So, as the title states, I need help picking a rear hub for my mountain bike.. Except I have a few criteria’s that I need met:

-32H (I really prefer this over 36h)
-13t (id like a driver over a 8/9 spd hub, but i dont know if they even make em that big...)
-Its going on my 2012 void. so i need 10x135!
-Id really really like it to also be a female system, im over the reg. style axle systems…
-Lightweight is a plus, not req’d, but I don’t want a tank.
-Looking to keep the rear hub under $200 (usd)

So far the only two that meet my criteria are the eastern venus mtb rear hub and the zakk 4140 hub.. butttt, I don’t want to buy the whole rear wheel just to use it for the hub, I also cant find just the hub anywhere… and the zakk hub is no longer in production, which really sucks, because that is literally everything im looking for in a rear hub.. so im screwed with my two options. Who else knows of a rear hub that meets my needs? Id like to try the NS rotary but it only comes with a 9t driver, and no don’t tell me to buy a smaller sprocket, I bought my 30t for a reason… Thanks.

Ok, personal opinion i would try the hope pro 2 trials, great engagement, rolls extremely well... great sound ( if you are one to care about sound), a very light hub which also has a female bolt system which works well, but a downfall is it hasn't got a driver system but it has a normal cassette style free-hub which fits 12t cogs. its 20 dollars over your budget which is a reason for you not to choose it. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=61032

Obviously do what you want and keep looking for a hub which meets your requirements, which isn't too easy as not many single speed hubs come with a driver size of 12t anymore Frown maybe its time to look into a cassette style free-hub, which will save hassle and gives good adjustability and are proven popular around where i live!

Good luck!

Edit: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=60631 this is what would be required to make a 8/9 speed MTB style rear hub single speed

thanks for the info, i had to change it to 13t. i got all mixed up with the gear ratios, im running a 30t up front and want a harder ratio... so i might be having to run one of those 8/9 spd lookin ones.. damn.. anyone else got any other suggestions? thanks.

and i know what a ss conversion kit is, im not that lost Wink thanks.

Yeah. I talk about that hub in the first post.. although, ive herd good things about that rear wheel, ive also herd that its a decently heavy wheel... Ive also herd people complain about the engagement and it periodically slipping....

Get a whole wheel. They got these on Jenson and so far getting pretty popular.
Comes with a 12t and 10t driver option. Most local BMX dealers can order it for you also.Cost are around or under 200

Update
posting because I got word from Gary these wheels can have not only 12t and up cogs but also can be switched to drivers if wanting to run 11t down to 9 t. The wheel is 170$ from Jenson usa So I say this is a really good deal considering it will cost a lot more to build one. And I read your other post so a 28 and 25 would work freaking awesome straight out the boxBig Grin

From eastern
// Eastern's NEW MTB rear wheel, laced around the NEW Venus MTB 32-hole hub
// Venus MTB single speed, female rear hub with 10mm 7075-T6 axle
// 135mm spacing
// 12T one-piece driver
// 14g Stainless spokes
// Alloy double-wall rim

im planning on rocking a stock front wheel, and a custom back wheel (since i seem to tear up backwheels and not so much for the fronts)

that wheel is dialed for the price tho.. i was plannin on getting it before i decided that i was going to run a backwheel built by me (i will also sleep better at night )

I'd look further into the Hope Pro II Trials/Singlespeed hub ae. It fits standard SS sprockets 12tooth and up, 10x135 female bolt up, reasonably light, great engagement (especially when comparing to most other SS hubs), 32 or 36 hole, tons of colours. It does have a freehub style body but shorter than a 8/9 speed hub so it is still dishless and strong like other SS hubs. One of the few parts on my bike I haven't broken yet. Yep, my 2 cents worth.
