I've had my Giant yukon disc (2009) for 3 years now and want to get a bike that i could use for light freeride/DH, basically just for the handfull of local tracks; though i'd still need it to be able to ride XC. all in all i need a good all-rounder bike that can take some FR/DH.

Pricewise ( this would be a Xmas+Birthday present, yes present i'm 16 so not earning $$ ) so i don"t think i can ask for anything over 800€ ( 1,000 USD / £700 ). If you have somthing in mind a lil bit over that price obviously suggest it!

Right so at the moment there are mainly two bikes that i've been looking at:

One other thing: i know the answear you will probably give is: "go ride one" but i don't know that many people who also do DH FR in my area so... i cant. Frown
For the Kona Five o the only frame sizes i can find are 16" or 20" on chainreaction. I'm 1m75 and i dont know if the 16" would be a bit small for me seeing as they say it's suited for riders 1m63 to 1m75... and im guessing the 20" would be too big so yeah need some info on that Smile
( the Giant i have is a Medium but i guess thats irrelevant seeing its an XC and the kona is more FR )

Ok i think that pretty much sums it up.

I like the Core you posted. It's got a Chomoly frame which is nice for a bike to pound on (especially a hardtail), strong name brand parts that should allow to to progress.

Yeah I'd definitely choose the Core over the Kona. It has a better frame, better components and the frame has the same geometry as their Surge frame. For the sizing, the 16" frame will be perfect, it's really chuckable and if you need to pedal lots just get a longer seatpost.

Ok, that's interesting, to me the core seemed much more for like pure Freeride /dh whereas from what i've read the fiveo is supposed to be a better all-round bike, then again i couldn't find much on the core...

Any other bike suggestions because as i said i think these two would be good but maybe theres other stuff i've not considered

Firstly i don't know that much on mounting all the parts etc...
and also building it to the same kind of component standard as the core or other completes would probably cost me more than i have to spend.

But i think i'll go ahead with the Core 1
