I'm tempted with changing my set up to 1x10 as its currently on a 2x9 set up but never use the granny ring!

My question is this do I need to change my crank or can I continue with my existing crank and change the rings to suit???

Also any recommendations on rear set up .... thinking SRAM X9 and SRAM Cassette and chain??

Cheers

I just switched to a 1X10 setup on my Transition Covert build. I had a set of RaceFace Ride DH cranks from my previous ride (Kona Five 0 with a 2X9 set up) and did the full conversion with no issues. I converted the cranks with a E13 32 tooth chaingring and completed the front with a Straighline silent guide.

I went with a SRAM PG 1070 cassete 12-36, SRAM X9 10spd rear derailleur (medium cage) and a SRAM 1051 chain.

I have been out for the last week on the new bike and setup and love it. I wish I did it sooner.

Hope this helps

why not try a 1x9 set up first and see if you like it? A stinger chain device and your old front mech are a great way of saving money and still keeping your chain on. You can get an 11-34 block and with a 32 or 34 ring up front you don't even need to go 1x10. 1x10 is a lot of hype and expense for something that you can cover with a 1x9.

O+

Is it difficult to pedal uphill with a 1x10? On my future am build I would like to do that cuz I looks clean but I don't want to be pushing my bike up the hill. I already do that with my dh lol

It depends on what hill it is and what gearing you are running. A 1x9 is just as clean and far cheaper. there are also more options.

so true, you could also get a 36t sprocket and just fit on your old cass.

....unless you like really close ratios.

1x10 really isn't all too difficult. It depends on where you live and what your terrain is like. I run a 32t front ring, and an 11-36 cassette with a short cage derailleur. It's fine for where I live, I don't feel the need for more gears, the only thing is that I am limited. However, it's a cleaner set up and quieter. Running a shorter chain also allows for a cleaner and crisper shift. Just depends on the whole setup though.

still riding a 1x9 set up on my trek scratch with a 32 up front, 11 to 24 rear. works fine in scotland. have'nt found anything too steep for it yet and the trek weighs some.

I run a 1x9 with a 32t ring and an 11-36 cassette. Med cage dérailleur. My chainring is SS specific and I don't run a chain guide. I couldn't tell you the last time I dropped my chain either.

I just got a Cannondale Rush which has a 22/32/44 in the front, and the front derailleur is broken.

It's got a 12-25 in the back and as I'm strapped for cash I'm considering just turning the front into a 1 x 9 around the middle gear.

Could I get by with just a 32:25 climbing ratio? Also, quick question, do all 9 speed cassettes have the same spacing between gears?
