As much as there are people on here that know what they're talking about, you'll get a lot better info by finding a forum specific to the type of vehicle that you're building. At the very least though, a little info on what you're building would be useful.

fuel tank is dented real good, luckily it didnt split and decide to send fuel onto the sparks being created from the driveshaft hitting the ground

just the driveshaft, the truck rolls and starts so nothing is seriously damage, but driveshaft is guaranteed to be out of balance, and the U-joint, and mounting yoke are dicked. so i go to a wrecking yard, grab a driveshaft, and i should be golden.

So if i was to buy a v8, 5.3 or something of the sort. GM based. Just to pull apart and learn how shit works and eventually drop it into something what would I be looking for? 6.0 out of a 2500 chev?

Get a 5.3, that's what I'm doing. 6.0 had piston slap issues on some and are usually more expensive.
