What crank should I go with? What would fit ? What works the best? Personal opinions welcome aswell

Mate,it's not very adventurous or original but you just cannot go wrong with an XT. Absolutely bombproof, easy as anything to fit and 'service' + looks the business, go for silver though.

Now I'm thinking on changing the set up currently 3 - 10 too many In my eyes and and after the 1st outing need to set up/alter/change a few things

Definately agree.I got a 2012 M770 Triple but have now changed it to a double.Using a 36/24. Been looking at Deore also as I need another set of cranks for my Hardtail, and you can get them for about £60 new, but again will be a triple

Yeah the m770 are good. Mines last years and still going strong. I only use a 34t single ring with a chain guide.
Had them fitted to a downhill bike, now their on a hardtail. 1x9 all the way.
What sort of riding do u do?

All kinds of riding
On road (when needed) , off road
Was looking @ 1x10 but 2x10 should be better than 3x10 then at a later date may go Down to 1x10 in the future

I have a ticket for the Forest of Dean uplift for this Sunday 12th August. Cost is £27 but will let it go at £20 since they won't refund me anyway. Email: dire_alex@hotmail.com - m: 07917 335353. Pretty sure they won't mind transferring it to another named rider.

At the end of the day, just take off the chain ring/s you dont use. If you use them, keep em.
When you do go 1x10 get a guide coz you'll have no front mech to point the chain in the right place.
Something like this will do
