This is a forum for people to talk freely about the Champlain (aka Aylmer) dirt jumps...

I was introduced to this spot in 2006 by a friend of mine who was digging on the main line there at the time, and since then I have spent more time holding shovels and pulaskis than handlebars at the jumps. What can I say? I love building places to ride. The land is private and slated for development sometime in the next 5 to 7 years, but for now it is probably the best public dirt jumping spot in the Ottawa area.

Some may find it hard to understand... however, be warned. Because of the amount of work that's gone into building and maintaining this incredible spot, I have developed a sense of pride and ownership over the years. The jumps are by no means "mine" but myself (and the other builders) do not look favourably on people who alter lines prior to consulting with the people who built and ride them, as well as those who think it is acceptable to litter (that's leaving your garbage behind rather than taking it home for disposal).

All are welcome to come check out the jumps, but you should consider a few simple RULES prior to showing up:

- NO LITTERING!
- No dig, no ride (cutting grass and sweeping the jumps is considered digging).
- If you damage something then FIX IT!
- Leave the place as you found it (which includes putting carpets back on jumps and berms after a session).
- Lighting fires in dry, grassy fields we are not supposed to be in is NOT a good idea.
- Play nice with the others.
- BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY!

I'd like to add something.

On the safety note...

We all have to remember that dirt jumping is dangerous, even experienced riders bail at times. So with that in mind my advice to all users of the jumps is... please ride with a buddy and wear a helmet!

Your always going to be better off with a buddy around while riding dirt jumps because A) If you bail hard and break something (which happens at least once every season I've been going there) they can call the ambulance if required B) its just more fun to ride with others and C) You progress as a rider faster in my opinion when riding with others.

Not to mention you and I are both out with concussions right now... I was so dopey after crashing I wouldn't have been able to get myself home. GRRRRRRRRRR

Good post Dave tup By the way Im making a change to the line just to the right of the main line... There are 2 jumps and will probebly make the first one smaller and lunchier and for the second one I wil make a big trick jump kind of step up hopefully...

Thanks Simon, sounds like a good idea to me. Just be careful with the little berm beside the second landing in that line... I know it's small but I love that berm.

Don't touch the berm... I just built that this year and we love it. Lots of space for bigger jumps elsewhere.

hey i live in ottawa and i am looking for spots to ride. I was wondering if there is a way to give me an exact location of these jumps. Obviously I understand that you guys don't want random people coming to ride them and not helping with the maintenance of the jumps. I would be willing to help out when i can

I think he means the structure after the second jump in the farthest-left line. It's been a work in progress for a while now.

Thanks for not wrecking the berm, Simon. That landing looks like it's coming along... are you planning on making it level with the landing next to it?
