I have a 2006 Santa Cruz bullit. It's not tapered and is 1 1/8". I'm looking to get a new fork. Would it be possible to run a tapered fork?

Thanks

That would be like sticking a square peg through a round hole.

Sorry to bring this back, but all who reply to this thread is wrong.. Reminds me of going to my local bike shop to ask this question and them insisting cannot be done and want to sell me non tapered fork instead.. I walk away .... It can be DONE. Providing you have 44mm headtube this seems to be standard for a 1 1/8 steerer.. And assuming its a semi integrated headset youre having now, you just need to change the bottom headset that accomodate a 1.5 .. I use a HOPE H-cup like this :

Okay then, show us. I want to see a tapered fork in a frame with a straight 1 1/8 headtube along with a headset.

Thats the 1.5bottom set. I think from here you will get the picture. It would put you probably 1.5 degree off as well due to bottom headset seems like an external extension of the headtube. (This example is from a rockshox 1 1/8 tk?? 100mm travel to a RST Titan air 120mm tapered 1 1/8 - 1.5) hope this helps.

That's rather impressive. I'd be interested to see what the longevity of this is though. I'm not sure I'd use it for anything really aggressive without knowing whether or not a frame designed for integrated headsets can handle the different forces applied by a normal headset cup, but I don't see it being a problem for XC/AM. Top work.

It actually IS possible. It's just really hard to find that part, and it's been a long time since I've seen it.

That issue came up and a brand created special "extension" cups for 1-1/8" to run tapered forks. The bottom cup essentially was much longer/higher stack so when the fork's 1.5" or tapered section was put into the 1-1/8" bike's Headtube, instead of simply not fitting, the bottom cup created that extra space to take care of the tapered part of the steerer tube and by then, rest of the steerer tube fitted fine.

Pretty much just created an extension bottom cup that moved the tapered fork's steerer tube downward to compensate.

Fingers cross it wont hurt the frame, bike use is only for local trail rides blue and red graded routes (midlands) nothing extreme like wales or scottish highlands Smile . .. Or Utah (the one in youtube)

To make you feel better, I haven't heard anyone have problems with that kind of stuff.

Sorry, it'll only fork on frames that take an integrated headset, your chameleon doesn't.
