Just fitted the Chris King Baseplate onto my forks but there's a gap of a few mm !

I've definitely got it round the right way, why is there a gap!?

you sure its the right way up?? anyway, you need to push the race all the way down until it is sitting flush to the crown of the forks, i doubt you'd be able to preload it on there via the top cap.

Yeah it's deffo the right way up, the other way round it dosn't fit in with the bearings. And I followed the installation guide on king's page so there's no way it's round the wrong way.

I might be able to hit it down a bit further onto the steerer actually, but they'll still be a gap as the baseplate has a kind of rim thing at the bottom. Seems a bit weird if it's designed to be like that..

Anyway I've emailed King so hopefully they'll let me know what's up.

Cheers

You should be able to knock it all the way down flush

Hmmmm, I know its been said before, but check the crown race to make sure you have definitely got it the right way round, I know it sounds like a stupid thing, but a couple of my friends have managed to put it on upside down recently and judging by the picture, the part that sits in the part where the bearings contact the race is what is stopping it from going lower and it doesn't look like the race is flush enough in the cup to look the right way round.

Im pretty sure it's the right way round. I tried it the other way round before I fitted it and it didn't fit in with the bearings. I've tightened up the top cap and there's no play or anything, feels nice and smooth. Just its definitely not right for that gap to be there. Is there like different versions of the Baseplate? Maybe I got the wrong one..

And on Chris Kings website it said to install the baseplate 'conical side up', which is what I did.

Add a small amount of grease when you tap it back on. Use a old headset cup upside down on top of the baseplate hit with hammer . Hold forks up in the light to see if its flush . Job done
