Hey cool a Taro thread. I just got one. It is still at the shop awaiting new brakes, an XT shadow rear derailleur, dropper post and some green accent goodies.

Its just the beginning...

how does it ride?

Looks like a decent bike really. I'd check the bolt holding the crank onto the BB. If the bike is brand new, take it back and make them fix the play issue.

As for upgrades, i'd keep it stock till either you break something, or something just isn't working to your standard.

For example, if you are constantly adjusting your post height during a ride, get a dropper.
Not enough traction, get new rubber. Stuff like that.

Basically with just about any stock bike upgrades can replace just about every part except the frame.
Can always get better fork, drivetrain, brakes, wheels, rubber, and every other misc part, right now to grips.

Ride it for a while and replace/upgrade whats neeed as times goes by.

My personal opinion is that after just a few quick spins down to the lake the elixir 1s and the wheels have to go. Not stiff enough. Although I do tend to ride pretty aggressively. But that's more or less what this bike is made for...

Kona seats are the worst! I had the same one on my Operator Frown swap it out as soon as you can.
Makes all the difference on a long ride. A comfy seat you NEVER think about. A bad seat is ALL
you think about!

Agreed. HAHA i had a seat from a kona stuff of mine, i think 2004. BEST seat ever. I swapped it onto another 4-5 kona's after till it finally had to be retired.

What's the seat post and seat collar size on the Taro?

I have a Taro on order but want to grab a deal on a dropper post and non-qr clamp that will finish before the Taro arrives...

The collar is 34.9mm and the post is 31.8mm

So I'm thinking about one of these to replace my XC rig. Curious about sizing and what you are running for your size. I know my medium Operator feels small so....?
I'm 5'10" 32" inseam longish arms. My current Iron Horse XC is a 17" frame. Could have gone 19" if they had one in stock.
How do you guys feel about the fit of this bike? This would be my first 29" bike as well if that comes into play.

So here is mine at the moment. I used to live in CO and rode/raced big bikes but now I live in Minnesota and there isn't much of that here. I picked up the Taro to handle the pedaling while still having similar geometry to a bigger bike. I haven't been disappointed. Its a blast!

So far upgrades are this,

XT Shadow rear derailleur
XT M785 brakes
Deity Cinch green seat collar
green Ouray lock on grips
Rockshox Recon Dropper post
Crankbrothers Candy C (not pictured)
Rockshox 130mm internal dampener

I'm gonna ride it some more and see what breaks before doing much else. Although Its been about 6 rides and the rear wheel is slightly out of true....
