i have a fox dhx air 5.0 7.875 x 2.25 that seems to bottom out around 2" instead of going all the way to 2.25". air spring is around 170psi, and ive tried it with propedal full out, bottom out resistor full out, and boost valve set at 125 psi (the minimum) and it still wont go all the way through the stroke. and no its not my frame bottoming out either. any ideas?

release al the pressure from the spring. make 130PSI piggyback pressure. try to compress the shock to all the shaft travel. post here what happens

took all air pressure out of can and went to 75 psi in boost valve, which is actually the minimum, not 125. with all air out, it stops with about 1/4" of stroke to go. I can hear and feel the shock bottom out. maybe that is the way they are? this is my first dhx air, and it might just be my last lol. other fox air shocks I have had, when I bottom them out, I blow the o ring clear off the shaft. this one stops 1/4" too soon imo.

that tells about wrong IFP piston setting. in your shock it must be 33mm. obviously you have less. turn your bottom-out adjuster all the way counter-clockwise and repeat that test. if result does not change, it is 99% wrong IFP depth.

it is very simple to fix (here are photos for coil version, but for air one it is all the same):
1) remove shock from the bike and release all the air from piggyback and air spring.
2) release 2 screws and remove blue bottom-out cap

5) if not, unscrew the screw in the IFP piston and gently push it to the 33mm depth.
6) place IFP screw back, tighten it a bit ans assemble all the stuff back. pump your piggyback to 100-120PSI and check it again

yes thanks chuvak, im gonna try this when i get a chance. the holidays are keeping me busy. so it is agreed that my shock stoke should go all the way to the end of the shaft? not a 1/4" before the end?

I am very sorry. when I read 1/4", I thought about 25mm. can't get used to imperial system of measurement. yes, when 1/4" (6mm) is left, that's OK, have no worries, your shock is operating well.

here is a proof picture of my girl's shock (200mm eye-to-eye length, just as yours). you can't see on photo, but slide calliper shows 6.5mm.

wow thanks for posting that before i ripped into my shock! ok so my shock is normal then? i wonder why all my other fox shocks will blow the o ring off then? tecnically it only has 2" of stoke if it doesnt blow the ring off imo. thanks again for all your help.

it's fine. my girl had float RP23 once. and yes, it's O-ring was blowing off. DHX doesn't.
