I have a Maverick Durance that I got recently and looking at doing some mods. I think the longer travel (150mm) DUC32 fork doesn't balance perfect with the shorter travel (135mm) monolink rear. What Ethan at The Flow Zone said is he does a 650b front wheel with reduced travel and adjusted valving.
I don't want to spend a lot of money but want something light. I have come to a few options that I think are good, but now trying to figure out the best rim width front and rear for my bike.
I use this as a XC/AM do-all bike, not enduro with big drops, so not sure if big 30mm internal width rims will be right or too wide for my riding. Terrain is rocky with lots of ups and downs, singletrack with switchbacks.

Here are the rim combos I am looking at, feel free to post others:

Combo 1:
Light Bicycle, carbon, 30mm internal, 400g, $170, 650b, front
Light Bicycle, carbon, 27mm internal, 375g, $175, 26", rear

Combo 2:
Nextie, carbon, 25mm internal, 360g, $165, 650b, front
Spank Oozy Trail295, Aluminum, 24.5mm internal, 420g, $76, 26", rear



My concerns:
Too wide will hurt rolling resistance and force me to run larger, heavier tires (again with more rolling resistance)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd assume I wouldn't want a wider rear rim, wider front being fine (bike already has 2.25" rear tire and 2.4" front).

Personally I would never mix/match the wheels like that and it seems like you might be overcompensating with the smaller and thinner rear rim. Instead I'd just get the 38mm 26" (or 650b) stick a Hans Dampf on the back and a Magic Mary on the front .

The only reason I am mixing is Light Bicycle and Nextie don't offer the same widths in both 26 and 27.5.
LB offers a 26" in 23mm (with bead hook), 27mm and 31.6mm (all internal).
In 650b the offer 24mm, 30mm and 31.6mm.

Nextie offers 26 in 29mm and 650b in 22, 25 and 30mm.

Do you not think the 38mm (31.6mm internal) rims would create too much rolling resistance and cause a narrower 2.2-2.3" tire bit too square?

Schwalbe tyres are properly sized unlike maxxis, a 2.3 magic mary is about the size of a 2.5 maxxis. I have that exact tire setup on my bike and it works fine.
