it's all about how you build it, even my rig in the slackest setting pedals decent. Toss in a ccdba with cs and a proper fork with the flip chips in the right setting and you will love it. Don't expect it to be a Rune though.

That can't be good.
A bike like that should be able to climb.
Seems pointless otherwise,as climbing is a big part of MTB'ing

You can't have it all. The point with the Darkside is you can configure it how you want. Steepest HTA with a single crown fork and shock with climbing switch = you can pedal it (although it won't be amazing).

Slackest setting with a dual crown fork and coil shock? Same climbing ability as a pure DH bike.

If you have the patience to change shock/flip chips and wheels you could actually change it back and forth for each ride.

Don't get me wrong it will go up a hill but thats really not what it's designed for, in the steepest setting 64.5 it would be more suited to a jump trail at the bike park not going up a hill. If you want to spend the best part of £10,000 on xc light carbon bits then it might do a little better for climbing but at the end of the day its a gravity machine. If you want a mountain bike for going up and down then I would look elsewhere maybe 650 enduro type bike 150-160 travel (Rune etc.. loads on the market) . I've tried the 'do it all bike' and you just end up on a 150-170 bike that doesn't particularly climb that well or descend well either.. I have a darkside for gravity days and the alps. A 160 hardtail (ns surge evo) for xc and all mountain and a shorter travel jump/park hardtail. Deffinatley worth investing in dedicated bikes if you got the ££££

I regularly climb mine up hills. When it's 32-33 lbs with a dropper where you can get full leg extention it makes for a sweet trail bike, climb switch works well. Unfortunately the only droppers with enough extention IMHO are the RASE and Vecnum moveloc, both are expensive. I have an older style rase and it works great.
