Hey Folks... This thread is for the busted-ass, mediocre equipped, skill-lacking trials enthusiasts who are a bit insecure about participating in a trials forum, but just can't give it up.

This is the only bike I own at the moment. It looks like a child's when riding with my 13yr old daughter and her 29er. Even my wife's bike is bigger. None of my friends even know what "trials" is but I DON'T CARE.

I bought the Ryan Leech 853 frame and fork (brand new) back in early 2000. I forget when I decided to paint it with black rock-guard but there it is. I added the Vanilla RLC because... well... it is my only bike and I am softer than I used to be. There are a few goodies on it. I can't see myself investing in another trials specific ride, so I'll run this one to the ground.

I don't do huge gaps because my pedal kicks are weak, but when I go to the skate park with my son, a small crowd usually forms around me as I fumble my way up and around the various obstacles. There isn't anyone doing trials around here... so I just inform them that I'm as good as it gets and they fall for it... lol.

Anyway, here is my setup... and I encourage anyone who is intimidated by the fine looking machines and skilled riders that frequent this forum to proudly post their own busted-ass ride. It's all about having fun!

I found the 853 seat stays flexed a bit too much.

Deore XT seemed like a decent choice.

I call this thing "the thumb". I also run a 24t ring. The full rear cassette gives me plenty of cush without too much cross-chaining. Remember... I'm a wussy trials rider.

I don't think I'll be posting any videos... you don't need to see that... the thread is bad enough as it stands.

Cheers
Rick

I'm right there with you Rick! I'm running a rigid 2010 Giant STP as my "trials" bike. It also happens to serve as a street, dirt jumper, and bmx ride for me as well. It has been great for learning the basics though and I'm not really wanting to spend the money on a dedicated trials rig at this point in my life. I still have a great time riding trials on it and having fun is what it's all about! Digitally speaking I'm just emerging from the Stone Age, but when I get it figured out I will post some pics.

Keep it up Rick! Although I primarily live on trails these days, Ill still dabble on my trials bike! Its a Planet X Jack Flash. I got it back in 2003.

skills are not great compared to todays standard, but we were trying to keep up back then when 26" street/park riding started up!
