Shortening new brake cable...

I have just got my pink sinz brake cable and its bout 5-10 cm to long? How do you shorten it including the plastic coasting? Does anyone have any tips or what tools to use? Cheers

Just use some cable cutter but cut all arround instead of one quick cut and re-open de vinyl guide inside with a needle !

well if your cutting at the top, then slide the housing right off. Now cut where you want to and if you bought the cable seperate take the little caps it comes with and put one on and pinch it lightly shut. Then to make it even cut the cable apopriatly at the bottom (Say you took off 4 cm with the housing, take off 4 from the cable.) Thats probably the easiest way to do it.

OR cut however you long you want the CABLE to be and then use wire strippers and take off the correct amount of housing. This would be done by cutting at the bottom.

I use wire snips and a hammer since i dont have a cable cutter. I use the snips as good as i can, Then put them on the ground and hammer the head(pinchy part) against the floor and it finishes the job well enough. I then pinch it back so its not smushed shut and i'm good to go.

Sure it does! Just gotta be quick about it so you dont melt the liner too much :-). I've used chop saws to do it, a TIG torch, a sheet metal shear.....all sorts of stuff!

i guess a plasma cutter may work since cables are linear strands of steel, but it may be a bit of overkill

I use a dremal with a cut off disk. Just make sure you take the cable out before you cut it.

the head that produces the arc for tig welding is called a "torch". The arc from it welds, obviously theres no flame, but it will definitely cut brake housing with the arc.

Im a certified welder. I have 3 tickets. I think i know what im talking about. I know what he was trying to say, its just not referred to as a "torch"
