I've done it the last two years and not bothered this year, last year was really busy, like your busiest day at a trail centre ever, there's tons of like minded folk on it tho and some good banter which really makes the event, the HQ area is buzzing and tented beer festival is a bonus. This year sees an increase in numbers and I just thought nah, can't be arsed again.

There's some big hills up and some technical descending in areas, but overall I thought the downs were a bit mediocre.

The 5 1/2 hour time restriction should sort a few out,can see a lot of riders being pulled off the hills without completing it.First year I did it,some people took more than 9 hours!!

Thats crazy, you could walk it blindfolded in less than that !

Log on to their site you can see the times posted, everyone i've seen over the past few years are more than capable of finishing in the alloted time, there's a rear sweeper that brings up the rear on a trials bike, the country mile method they use is a bit off kielter,

The bloke that won it this year was on a hard tail and his gears were skipping all over the place, a father and daughter combo nipped it off on a tandem so if you cant get yourself round in the time which is generous you shouldnt really call yourself a Mountain Biker. They aren't even Mountains, just a few Hills.

Think in the first year,a lot of riders underestimated it,they were pushing there bikes up the first hill out of the car park.If people aren't used to knocking out 25-40 milers in the Peak District or lakes, week in week out,it will be a challenge.and anyone can call them selves mountain bikers no matter what level there at remember we all started somewhere

Hmmm, I know what you mean but it's kinda like calling yourself a Skier after going ice skating. I know we all started out somewhere but even on the first year there were plenty of warnings about both the terrain and the length. And to only enter if as you say you can complete a loop of similar size.

Are you talking about the road road climb? Out of the car park.

The one just gone was a real laid back affair on the transitions, the weather was glorious and there were impromptu stops on road side benches and village greens. There were plenty of people on stage 1 caught out by the terrain and they flatted quite heavily. It's a great weekend and if you can do a loop of the Beast at CYB I'd say you are there or there abouts.

Yes it was the road out of the car park, that was in 2013 and 2014,was injured last year so didn't get chance to do it.But the organisers were concerned about the length of time it was taking people, especially on the sportive. To be fair though the weather in 13 was really windy, tough going.
It is a great event though, the Pmba series is pretty tame compare the the ardrock.going to to the Welsh series this season, heard good things about it.Good luck Newclearbomb at ardrock.

Thanks, but I'm not doing it this year 2016, done it last 2 but this year looks a bit too commercialised.

Last year there was a massive increase in numbers and some of the waiting times were at least 15 mins, this year it's the same thing on both days, just goes to highlight the popularity of the sport, we need more venues more dates and more descending.

I dare say they could run one a week thro the summer holidays

Well no doubt the extra sponsors present at the event will pump a bit more money into keeping the thing running year after year and helping maintain the trails.

I've never raced before so i'm really looking forward to it. Gotta get some serious training in over the next year.

Umphhhh, I know I said it wasn't that difficult but I wouldn't like to do it twice in the bounce ????

One of the stages this Aug I think it was 3 had the mother of all push-ups out of a rocky gully UP a soft squidgy trail that was un rideable, that burnt my legs.
