Thanks for your postings on this. I just ordered the trailstar version. Want to give this a try up front. Will be a few weeks before I can run it though as I still have 23mm ID wheels (Mavic Crossmax). I'm still deciding on what carbon rims to get. Do you think 28mm internal is too narrow for these?
Since 29 id worked fine without any problems I don't see any issue running a 28mm id. I ran 2.5" downhill tires on Sun eq31 (23.5mm id) and those tires were subject to much greater forces (higher speeds, rougher terrain, and I was heavier back then at 210lbs vs 175 now) and I never had any issue.
On the subject of rims, go light-bicycle I've only heard good things about them and at €250 per rim it comes as a "bargain". Light-bicycle rims on hope 4 hubs will be my next upgrade for sure. You basically get 3x pair of LB carbon rims for the cost of a single pair of ENVE's.
It's actually the light bicycle ones I'm looking at: their new asymetrical 28mm rims. My other option is the Nox Farlow - 29mm internal but a fair bit more expensive.
I wonder if you could give me an outside diameter measurement for the NN 2.8 mounted on a rim. I'm guessing that it's less than a 29er but more than a 27.5 x 2.35 tyre?

The outer diameter of a NN2.8 is only slightly bigger than a good sized 27.5x2.35 tire. It's 715-716mm. A WTB Vigilante is 712mm and a Conti TK 2.4 is 713mm, for example.

It is A LOT smaller height-wise than a 29er
Thanks for the information. I've actually bought one since my original post and it performs really well. Mounted on a 30mm IW rim gives loads of grip, rolls well and comfortable. It's 5mm bigger radius compared to MM. Plenty of clearance with Fox 36.
