Sorting a new 1x11 next month, looking for peoples opinion.

Thinking of shimano xt rear mech, xtr chain, xtr shifters with Hopes new cassete and hope cranks with 30tooth up front... thoughts?

Cheers

I'm running 3x9 setup

I don't run 1x11 but I run 1x10 with 32t chain ring and 11-36t cassette. I get on fine with this and it's so much better than my old 3x9 setup but sometimes I feel like I could do with an expander cog on my cassette. If I were going to get a 1x11 I would go for an 11-42 cassette and a 34t chain ring. Chappy that sounds like a good setup but I would probs go for a kmc or SRAM chain!

Do ur rides consist of huge climbs?

Currently running 2x10 sram x9, whole drivtrain is battered now so time for full upgrade. I think I'll get the kmc chain, only heard good things!

How fit woukd you suggest I would need to be for 10-42 with a 32tooth?

I'm not that familiar with Hope's new cassette, but their website says the 11-speed 10-40 and 10-44 cassette uses a "unique freehub" that works with Hope Pro 4 and Pro 2 EVO hubs. That sure sounds proprietary to me. I don't get why anyone would want to go that route, but hey whatever floats your boat I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

edit: @chappy08 do you already have a rear wheel with a Hope freehub?

Sometimes yes

I think you will see a big difference in weight by losing two chainrings and the front shifter when going from 3x9 to a 1x drivetrain. I know you said you were considering 11-42 in the back, but Shimano's releasing a new, 11-46 cassette this summer, and OneUp just released a 50-tooth extender to convert Shimano's 11-42. If you're worried about losing range, the 11-42 converted to 11-50 or 11-46 would be great choices.

That would b fine, wouldn't need to b all that fit for that! As I said in a previous post, I'm running a 32t ring with 11-36t cassette. So if I get away with that you'll have absolutely no problem using a 32t chainring with an 10-42t cassette!
