SRAM GX derailleur adjustment killing me!

So I have the 1 x 11 GX (the new one), with the XG 1180 cassette. I cannot for the life of me get the adjustment to allow for easy movement onto the smallest cog while also being able to move all the way to the largest cog. The limiters are set correctly. The B screw is at the recommended gap setting (12-15mm). The barrel adjuster helps, but still does not make it perfect. I can get all of the other gears to run smoothly, it's just that last shift onto the smallest cog that doesn't want to go.

Is there a trick here that I'm missing?

when shifted to top gear does the derailleur cage/pulley line up with the smallest cog?

Yes. I don't think it could line up any better.

Try it without a cable. Does the derailleur move from the smallest to largest by hand? If not you may need to reset your limits. If those are fine then it might be that your cable tension is too tight.

Limiter is set. Problem is I can't find a happy medium on this derailleur with cable tension. Too loose and shifting is poor on large cogs, too tight and it doesn't like the small cog. I'm literally using the barrel adjuster one turn at a time to find the sweet spot and it's the same thing every time.

Kind of irritating, I'm not saying the GX is a super high end derailleur, but I have easily dialed in less expensive derailleurs without an issue.

sounds a bit too much?

try setting it so you have a 6mm gap fron the largest sprocket ( use a allen key to check)

should make the shifting snappier, just check carefully after before riding that it cannot make contact somehow though it is unlikely.

Thanks man, I'll try it and see but the SRAM directions recommend 12-15mm, however the directions are so general and pretty much worthless IMO so who knows!

doub check the cable routing around the clamp, having it on the wrong side of the bolt can throw it out as well.

check the hanger alignment if you can too.

SRAM says 12-15mm clearance on the B-tension but mine wouldn't shift smooth unless I ran it more in the 6mm range. I got it as close as I could before it started grinding when shifting to the largest cog

Thanks man, I'm going to try this out today, are you running the GX?

Thanks all, but I can't get a happy medium, After looking closely, I'm pretty sure my derailleur cage is slightly bent. I'm going to try to bend it back for the time being but will have to more than likely grab a new one. Only rode a couple weeks on this one!

Which side of the bolt does it go on??

there is usually a groove on ones side orr the clamping washer will be designed to fit one way and will be tapered.

if not clear check the fitting guide or google image search to check.

Gx 1x11....shifting is mostly fine up / down. Random gear jumping all over the cassette on power over rough terrain is driving me mad and is getting dangerous! Brand new Boardman FS Pro.....HELP!!!

Update....Turned out to be the cable was not slack enough and suspension compression was pulling derailleur between gears. Introduced some slack which sorted that. Now I just need to stop the awful grinding noise whilst pedalling hard in 42t ring uphill....Any more clues much appreciated, ta.
