I'm looking at getting a new bike and the 2016 Commencal meta HT AM Origin looks awesome. The bike will be used for commuting, trail riding, dirt jumping, and freeride.
Does anyone else have this bike or a meta HT in general? How do you like it?
I've got the 2015 model, it rips! Only downside is the BB/ Cranks which kept on coming loose, I've since replaced them and it rides 10x better. Another thing to keep in mind is that the dropper only has 100mm of travel, so when the terrain gets gnarly you may have to stop and lower the seat... Aside from all that, definitely recommend it!
I don't have much to add since I don't have it yet, but I ordered a 2016 Meta HT AM Race this week. It should be here on Saturday. I'm super excited about it. I did a bunch of research and for the price I just couldn't beat it for what I was looking for.
Awesome! How tall are you guys and what size did you get?
I'm >5'10'', thinking of ordering the Medium for maneuverability and jumps, but I am also a little wary of the shorter top tube length. My old Santa Cruz Bullit was a medium and was practically the same geo/top tube length and on the downhills I definitely felt it was a little short under me.
I used to love commencal, ridden one for years then I brought a new one
Before I even got to ride it the suspension pivot bolt ceased. It was put in and taken out twice both times with a torque wrench. Its alright I thought commencal are a great company they’ll help. They supplied the frame shock and bushings they’ll know what to do, ill even sent a video showing the problem
The first email sent on the 17th of april they replied Thank you for contacting us,
It is necessary right to draw the screw to withdraw it is normal that it does not leave more place, Have a good day,
Thanks They followed this up with a video of someone taking a bolt out. I’m not sure how piss taking works in Andora but Im sure this is pretty close.
I took Seventeen emails of back and forth and numerous videos , finally with me having to use a hammer and screwdriver at commencals suggestion to have a go at moving it. It didn’t work and commencal finally agreed there might be a problem with , and again Ill mention, the brand new unridden frame, shock, and bushings. and eventually agreed to take it back to solve the problem.
It was shipped on the 19th of April and arrived back on the 13th of may. Finally I could build my bike again and ride it? No. First it looks like the bold was taken out with a lump hammer and a kitchen knife. There are deep gouges all around the shock bolt mount. Great just what everyone wants that on there new frame.
The bushings are the same ones which gives me no confidence, as there’s a strong possibility that was the problem last time especially as commencal stated “The screw must block in the bushing not in the frame” in one of there emails
To top it all off THERE IS NO MOUNTING BOLT IN THE BOX. In fact it doesn’t even look like anyone has tried to fit a new one. I presumed as through seventeen emails commencal were convinced this was impossible or as they said” is difficult that it is a problem of manufacture” that someone would look at it, probably replace the suspect parts try a new bolt and bushings and send it back.
Instead what I got was the bolt gouged out, and then everything thrown the frame back in a box and sent back incomplete
I’ve then sent another five emails chasing the bolt. I was promised it last week then this week by Tuesday/ Wednesday. I asked them if they could courier it to me. Probably the least they could do, but recived just another empty promise. So a furyher two days later its still not here. I’m supposed to be in Germany riding but thanks to there level of customer care I have no bike. Theve now stopped replying to emails
They have not taken this seriously from the start. Even when they have had the frame back with them. It does not appear anyone has cared what the problem is or done anything other than shrug .
So that’s commencal. I know theve made great bikes, I’ve ridden them, i would have loved to have ridden one again. but hope you get lucky because if you don’t this is how they will treat you. i wouldnt rely on the five year warrenty and i wouldny rely on there customer service its a joke. Ive resorted to this in shear frustration. being in andora there is very little redress under eu consumer law. im going out of my way to warn people.

I'm 6'1" and I ordered a large. I compared to the current Kona I have, and I got the feeling the Commencal ran smaller. (My Kona is a medium and I ordered it that way on purpose since I love the extra maneuverability as well.)
It should be arriving tomorrow so I will update when I get it all together and let you know what I think!

I can only suggest you don’t by one.
Thanks for your comment, I read on another thread here that Commencal buyers had had some weird customer service. However I noticed everyone with these experiences were from Europe, while the US reviews of the customer service were good.
I could be wrong though, I can't speak for all the US Commencal customers on pinkbike haha

I have a Fire Mountain. My son adopted it from me though, so now I guess it's his.
Got my Meta HT on saturday. Got it all assembled and had a tiny bit of rub in rear rotor, not a huge deal. Spent the weekend getting it assembled and set up and adjusting the shifting and stuff (I'm still learning adjustment and all).
So far I love it. The frame is gorgeous. The sizing was good for me, feels similar size wise to my Fire Mountain as I suspected it would. (Fire Mountain is a medium, the Commencal is a large so they definitely run small!)
I'm super happy with it so far, I just wish I had more time to get out and ride it this weekend! (I partially blame Fedex for that since they didn't deliver until 6PM on Saturday night!) Will update once I get some proper time on it though!
I ordered a 2016 Commencal Meta HT AM Origin in the Medium and got it a few days ago. It rides great! At least around the street... I like the size too. I can feel the shorter top tube length for sure but it feels fine! Bunny hops and wheelies are nice and easy, and the wide bars feel much more comfortable compared my previous bikes.
I'll ride it hard this weekend and will have a photo soon!
Here is mine, (2016 AM Race) I love it. It climbs like damn goat. I'm doing a lot better on uphills than I'm used to, so that was a huge bonus.
I'm still a newbie so I'm probably not pushing it as hard as most, but I love it so far. It's definitely helping me progress and I'm having a ton of fun with it!
I just bought one a few weeks ago and it is an awesome bike. Very very fun to ride, handles great. I forgot how much fun a HT is and with the 160mm fork its bad ass!!
I drove to the location in Carlsbad and the guys there are great! I dont forsee any problems with the customer service in the furture should any arise.
Thinking of picking up a 2016 Meta HT Race. Can't really find much else for a sub $2k hardtail with the right specs.
After having yours for a while can you attest to it's radness? This is to supplement my carbon Range as a f*ckaround bike so reliability is super important.
Warranty is also important, seeing as I have cracked the last 4 frames I have had.
