so im wanting to put an air shock on a 2008 Demo 7 1 and just want to know what fits and what doesnt fit as i saw the thread where someone had to file down the frame to fit a rocco ( my frist choice ) installed

I saw an article in Mountain Bike Action about the demo 7, and it had a dhx Air. They never said anything about having to file down the frame so i supposed one would fit just fine. Just go to the specialized website and find out the correct dementions of the shock that would fit.

Those dudes at Specialixed are really stupid. The shock on this bike is unique! and not available form the canadian distributor who obviously is not aware of this specific application. Specialized non-standard = complications = standard employees from distributors not taking care of what's going on = back order.

This was not the case when Velocycle was a fox distributor!

thanks i have heard the dhx air works
but not too sure about other stuff i will give specialized a call sometime

Aren't you informed?

Velocycle was the former canadian distributor for Fox (2001 to 2007) who dropped the contract because of an evident & continued labor exploitment & lack of respect for their legetimate market share! They screwed them for over a million, so Velocycle stopped distributing the products. I think they still have a few things on clearout, you should try to get a deal on what you are looking for. I do not think the new distributor has stock on non-standard products like you seem to need, this unfortunatly means a long wait... It is not a smart move from Specialized to create new shock size these days, since the new distributor is not smart enough to know about it on time...

we are still able to get fox products through lambert or ogc dont remember what one it is the dhx 3 and 4 are OEM parts meaning they are not available but are on the website and should say OEM at some part. The dhx 5 is available for purchase

the demo 7 was designed on a 7.7 inch 2.5 stoke there is a limiter in the rear shock stock to make it 7.3 with a 2.375 stroke to market it at a bigger difference between the 7 and 8 so if i get the right eye to eye and stoke the dhx air will work im just wondering what other shocks work after seeing this thread

Carefull about saying that Velocycle was good, because they weren't so fantastic.

Anyways, the Demo 7 does use a standard shock, its a 8.5x2.5. If you look on the specialized site they spec it as a 8.5x2.375 but what they don't tell you is that there is a small plastic shim behind the bottom out bumper that they use to limit the travel of the shock so that it works better with the bike. By removing this .125" shim you effectively increase the travel of the bike by just over .375". You shouldn't have any problems running an 8.5x2.5 DHX Air on the Demo 7 frame. The biggest bummer was that Fox doesn't make a DHX air in a 8.75x2.75 variant to fit the Demo 8 frames.

Velocycle prouved to be outstandingly fantastic to me. If someone thinks Velocycle were not that fantastic, it means that Fox is not fantastic. My opinion is: Not giving the tools to a distributor to do a good job was the issue here, because I saw that WHY-ARE performed the job that is now filled by at least 5 persons at the new distributor. How come Fox was okay with that? He even had to recycle his wife to work with him to cope with all the missing support... I never saw anyone else give that much passion into his works, despite the absence of revenue of this sales channel, & still offer a good service. An engeneer job is supposed to bring the engeneer income, so I can easy understand why he finally quit. Long story short, Fox gets all the $$$ & looks clean, & Velocycle is perceived by a few as not that good. Well let me lift my hat to the courage & nice work of Velocycle despite their circumstances, they deserve at least that!

i went to specialized school for work the other day and yes the demo 7 is designed around a 2.5 stroke but it was limited to fit the size of suspension that most people would want on this type of bike

How was SBCU this year? I didn't get a chance to go as I wasn't in town. But last year it was good to hear all the info straight from the horses mouth.

pretty good alot of info on carbon fiber which was nice and the bg and womens lines
all in all it was good and a free lunch

Nothing happens to the angles or heights. You just get an extra 0.75" of travel at the end of the stroke. For those that don't believe you get 7.75" travel total, it even says so in the Specialized manual. Razz
