Can I put a tapered fork in my straight steer frame?

I have heard rumors of a device that can be mounted on the bottom of my headset that will allow for a tapered fork to work in my straight steer tube (44mm inside measurement). Is this true and should i even consider doing it? Thanks

I believe 44zs/44ec will do the trick. That is what people have been telling me. I haven't tried it yet because I had to get different fork on order.
