My wife and I are relocating to southern Europe for around 6 months this fall, October to March. We are avid all-mountain riders in Kamloops, BC and enjoy long challenging climbs and technical descents. We are looking for ideas on where to locate with good riding through the winter and a mild climate. Spanish and french speaking areas would be best as my wife speaks those languages. If you know of an area that fits that description I would really appreciate any advice from the locals.
I'm stay near Bordeaux. They don't have big climb, but they are many technicals single in the southwest of France. If you come near Bordeaux, I can show us somes trails near the coast.
Would be interesting to know what you decide on. I'm planing to remote work somewhere in similar area from January to March/April, getting away from the Icelandic winter and be able to ride

One more vote for Malaga area. Plenty of riding options in the area, super weather, easy connections from Malaga airport to many places in Europe and beyond. The best places to live would be Benalmadena / Fuengirola / Mijas / Marbella / Malaga city itself. Good blend of international people and local Spanish. You will be able to get by with English language and if you want to get immersed in the local community, they are super friendly.

Thanks! I have actually been in Malaga for a couple weeks already and I love it! There is a ton off good riding here and I think I have barely scratched the surface!
We are moving on to Granada later this week but I still want to get to the trails at the Benalmadena cable car before we go. Anyone available to join either tomorrow or Wednesday?
How did you find the difficulty level of trails in Costa del Sol specifically around the Mijas mountains? Judging from trailforks and people“s experience they seem quite downhilly and fairly difficult.
