I've looked around but can't seem to find anything in this specific sense.
So I have a new wheelset on the way to replace my damaged one...but DHL screwed up the order and it is not going to be here by the time I will be going up to ride DH at Granby.
I went to the LBS and they won't sell me the spoke without me paying for labor, and labor is $50 which I can't afford.

So the question is...can I ride with one spoke missing on the rear wheel without getting hurt? I get that it will mess up the wheel for good, and I'm fine with that. However, am I asking to get really hurt by riding with a broken spoke on the rear? I will retesnion all the other spokes as tight as I can, assuming that will help a little

No it wont kill you or the wheel unless more spokes brake or a lot of spokes loose a lot of tension. Usually what happens is that the spokes break due to uneven tension which loads one or two spokes to much and caueses them to fail, which leads to even more uneven tension on the remaing spokes and so forth. So when enough spokes has lost tension you will start bending the rim becuase it wont have the need support from the spokes to disperse the loads over the entire rim.

So just true up the wheel as good as you can and make sure it has good and even tension and you will most likely have no problem. When I bike bummed I used to ride out the entire day even if two or three spokes broke and had no problem rebuilding the wheel after.

Buy the spoke and take it with you! Im sure u can find a dude at the park that knows his shit and for a few bucks, a beer, or even nothing would be happy to help you put it in. Or watch a you tube video!
