Hi, I'm looking to get into dirt jumps/street and need a bike to do it on. I have looked at 26" dirt jump bikes, but most of them are out of my price range ($600). I don't need a suspension fork. I have looke at other forums and they say that 26" wheels are stable but harder to flick around. I also have looked at some 20" BMX for dirt/trails. BMX is more affordable, but I don't want to be so much into technical tricks and such. I have deicided on a 24", sort of the best of both worlds. I don't know if I want to go with a 24" BMX cruiser (Sunday Model C) or a 24" dirt jump bike (Haro Downtown 24 or Norco Ryde 24) I don't want a suspension fork so rigid would be better.

24'' DJ bike is the way to go for sure. Having a front disk brake, or at least the option to do so would make your bike much more versatile.
I had one, having a fork on there with a little suspension is really nice too, and it is still just as fast fast. I used to ride skate parks, and all kinds of stuff with mine.

24'' bmx is very limited compared to a 24 mtb/dj bike. 24 dj bike will be just as flickable, but more versatile. I learned how to 360 on mine. I also had a fat off road tire on front, and street tire on back. It was such a fun bike. If I didn't break the frame I would still be riding it.

For your size 24'' DJ would probably be more fun than a 26'' DJ bike. I wasn't much bigger than you when I got a 24'' dj bike, and I used it for all kinds of stuff even trails and dh bike style drops. There are tons of great cheap forks out there, also if you check the used section on pinkbike you could buy any kind of bike for 600 bucks, just expect to do a little work on it.

Thank You! I think I will definitely look into more 24" dirt jump bikes. The only thing is if I started hitting really big jumps, the only suspension forks are for kids bikes. On Pinkbike, there are only 3 24" forks for sale. I think a rigid fork would make me be more smooth than a suspension fork. Also, do you know possibly what bike you had (if it was in recent years)? Thanks!

You can run a standard 26" fork on a 24'' frame and it doesn't really mess with the geo at all. If anything it will just slacken it out a little bit, which would make it feel more stable on steep stuff. I used a standard 26'' dj world cup fork on mine with 24'' rims. I hucked tons of big stuff with it. Actually, I used a bunch of different 26'' forks on mine. Most 24'' dirt jump bikes back in the day came stock with 26'' forks.

24'' wheels fit on 26'' forks just fine, and 26'' forks work on 24'' frames just fine.

Having just a little bit of suspension in the front will make your ride smoother, and feel much better on your hands/wrists if you overclear and land to flat. DJ forks are pretty stiff, and not really plush. They are made for dirt jumping and riding skate parks. I pumped bowls and half pipes just as well, and even better than a lot of bmx riders. The fork never limited me, it just made riding more enjoyable, and it is really nice for hitting drops or flat landings.

Also my 24'' rims won't bend as easy and stayed more true than any of my 26'' rims.


I would be willing to sell you my 24'' rims for pretty cheap if you just want to build a bike. I mainly just downhill now, so I don't have any use for those rims.

Ok, thanks! I don't know about building a bike, everyone says it's more expensive, I guess my dad could help. I may have to buy most of the parts used. I have a kids fatbike, it's okay but I could use the stem, bars, seat, etc. Maybe I could get a pair of new Marzocchi DJ3's. As for buying used, I've seen some great bikes on there, but most of the sellers are in Canada and some of the bikes are from 2010, which I think I would want a newer bike than that. I will definitely look into that. Thanks for that fork tip, I thought that would screw with my geo to much. How much are you selling those rims for, I could buy a complete bike and just put the rims on there, your rims are probably stronger. Would you recommend any 24" DJ bikes? Thank you!

That looks awesome! But, the frame/forks/bar package is $650! Not to mention that it doesn’t include wheels, tires, grips, seat/seatpost. That would be an awesome bike, maybe I could take cockpit stuff and seat area things off my other bike, I don’t know if I want to take apart that though. Maybe I could buy your rims for that. Speaking of those, how much do you want for those rims? I don’t know if this sounds weird, but do those rims come with the cassette thing on it? Maybe I could build up one of those commongrounds but it would have to be atleast $750 ($650 for the frame/forks/bars package and the other components. Anyway, thanks for all the tips!

The Norco and Dartmoor are good, but I can’t find anywhere to buy them. I want to buy online, because our LBS doesn’t have any dirt jump brands. That commonground is perfect, but is much to pricey. Brutaldroppin, how much do you want for those rims? If you can ship, I may buy them, Thanks!
