Buying a used bike - What are the best times to buy?

Hey guys!

I'm new here and this is my first post, I'm looking for some advice as I'm looking for a new bike, after my old one got stolen late last year.

I used to ride a 2013 Enduro EVO and to be honest at the time of buying it I didn't know much about high-end bikes, I liked the look of it and bought it.

I'd be in the market for something used, an all mountain and with a budget of up to £1,800 (£2,000 absolute max)

Do you guys have any tips on the best times to buy? Or any other tips on buying used?

Cheers,

- Dylan

Winter is always the best time to buy a bike new or used not sure where you live but in Canada bikes don't sell much in winter for obvious reasons. Also as well as checking the components BB and drivetrain be extra vigilant with the frame, check the frame very well when buying used under the seatpost under the head tube suspension linkage points etc.. cracks can be really small and also filled in or sanded then touched up to be hidden.

Most sellers on here want it done in person, and yeah I'll be inspecting them very thoroughly, last bike I owned needed fork service a week after I got it

Thanks for the advice

I worked at a bike shop for years, I would always tell people who are buying a used bike to have the seller meet them at my shop. Most shops will do a free assessment for service and can tell you in 2 minutes what's wrong or if things look good.

If the seller doesn't want to do that then that's a big red flag, an expensive bike that's not maintained can result in people paying as much in repairs as they did for the bike.

I love this idea and I've never actually thought of it before, most sellers are really far away from me, guess I'd be meeting them at a nearby bike shop to them.

Really appreciate the tip.
