Who out there is riding a 4.5? From reviews it sounds like a great all around bike and wanted riders opinions. Going to have the chance to pick one up off of a demo day truck for 40% off.

Trails where I ride range from fairly gnarly rock garden descents to flowy single track with berms and jumps. But you always have to climb first! Currently riding a SC Hightower.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I'm in a 5.5. so, take this with a grain of salt. My experience with the 5.5 is that it's very efficient. There's truly very little energy lost while climbing. It's rowdy downhill. It's very capable all around. It's also way more bike than I need 70% of the time. With the 4.5, you'll get all the efficiency (and then some), most of the downhill performance, and plenty of adaptability. You can also change out the shock and run a DPX2 (or similarly performing can) if you think you need more out of the rear end.

At 40% off, you're getting a lot of bike for a very good price. Good luck with the decision. If I had access to that pricing I'd probably pick it up. It's a bad as bike.

The 4.5 is an amazing bike and does everything better than the SB5.5 except handle the really steep and Gnarly descents just due to the extra .9 degree HA and the added stiffness of the Fox 36 chassis that you get with the 5.5

The Geo is almost Identical regarding Wheelbase, chain stay length and reach between the 2 bikes. I'd tell you to go with the 4.5 in almost all instances as it's generally about 2 pounds lighter and much snappier on the flats and climbs with the more firm suspension tune on the rear DPS shock tune and the 26mm less travel. Climbs become real easy with the manageable 140mm fork and you'll have a less wandery front end.

Thanks for the feedback.

Forgot to mention that it is the TURQ series that I would be able to pick up, which I believe is a little stiffer. One drawback is I have been spoiled since I have been running 27.5+ on my SC HT, and the 4.5 only runs 29".

But a $7k bike for $4199 is hard to pass up.

I do have the 4.5 TURQ series. One of the best mid travel bike out there. Climbs super well thanks to the switch infinity and descends very well too. It feels that it has more rear travel that it actually has. I've only encountered that the bike suffers a bit when I go to Bike Parks or very gnarly trails. Go for it!

I've been riding a 4.5 for about 6 weeks now and I absolutely love it.
Its great for the rocky, root filled twistly singletrack and doubletrack here in CT.

I have a question for my fellow Yeti SB 4.5c bike owners. I have seen a few people in my travels with a Fox 36 160mm up front on their 4.5's. I am tossing around the idea of putting a Fox DPX2 in the rear and a Fox 36 160mm Grip 2 up front. Does anyone have any experience running this or similar setups on their 4.5's? Just curious if it affects the climbing massively or if it makes it a much more capable bike on the descents? I am afraid the change is going to be negligible and I am basically going to waste my money. I am considering buying a new bike but this bike has been one of the best bikes I have ridden, the frame is in perfect condition and the Geo on this bike is pretty current with all the industry offerings. Thanks for your help!

This is all great info as I am also looking at a 4.5 here in Australia as they're significantly reduced now price-wise. Still not cheap but am most likely going for a frame-only option and building up a relatively lightweight trail rig.
As a middle-age MTBer a Yeti has always been one of those iconic brand/bikes since I have been riding so pretty stoked to be finally able to afford one - especially now I have read so much about the 4.5 over the past few years and its out-and-out capability.
Cheers,
JW

Did you ever put that 36 and dpx2 on your 4.5? If so what did you find? I'm considering something similar.

I've built one up from a frame with dpx2 and fox 36 @150mm . It is amazing. Basically a 5.5 that rips uphill as well.
Do it you won't regret it

I have the 4.5 as well. Best all around bike I have had. It has handled days at the bike park to local single track. Stiff, responsive, tames the rowdy stuff, climbs amazingly well........No complaints......I would definitely buy again!
