Recently bought a new Santa Cruz Nomad and it came with the Lyrik RCT3 Fork. Im usually a Fox man so never really had anything to do with these.
Here lies my problem, put the air in as per the fork instructions/guides and instantly got 30% Sag and the bike nigh on unrideable, with it bottoming out all the time. Upped the pressure a little bit, while it now feels a hell of a lot better, its using just over half the travel only.
One other thing I noticed, even with the low air pressure it was not getting full travel on the fork legs, leaving about an inch. Even if I drop the air out full it doesnt go all the way to the crown, is this normal?
These days the air preload is single port charging 2 chambers. 1) Insert shockpump till there's a reading. 2) Deflate 50psi and cycle the fork(up &down) at each time till fully deflated. Yes, the fork will not compress all the way to the crown, usually an inch or less. 3) Inflate to 50psi and cycle the fork each time till at least 10psi more than desired pressure. Cycling the fork up and down equalizes the positive and negative chambers. 4) Remove shock pump. Use the same shock pump every time.
What I noticed is that RS forks Lyrik and Pike are very divey. They compress easily under heavy braking and high speed bumps. they seems to lack low speed sensitivity.
Try adding 1 or 2 more volume spacers and experiment with different air pressures.
