Bottle cage on older Process

Hi,

Looking at a new (to me) bike, I like the look of the older Processes - 134, 167,or 153, maybe a 111 as they're decent prices now.

Probably been discussed to death but I can't find it using the search on here... but only thing putting me off is the Bottle cage/crudcatcher on the downtube.

Looking at the Canyon dual/eject waterbottle system, looks like that would fit.

Any success stories with other systems?

Cheers,

J

My 2014 process 111 size medium
A bottle cage actually fits in the triangle with a medium size water bottle. Has more clearance than many other bikes I have seen. Not sure why they didnt put a cage mount there. I drilled my frame and installed threaded inserts. If you dont feel comfortable drilling holes you could use hose clamps or something

Nice Zack! I run debonair cans on my wife's 111 and my Monarch + with piggy back, so I don't think doing what you did would work for us. I love the ingenuity and balls though.

I use a Nalgene bottle with a clear hinged dome lid to cover the mountpiece/nipple. Otherwise, I just water on my back and keep tools and stuff on me anyway, so not a deal breaker for me.

Used G1 bikes are at an all time low on the used bike forums. I'm gonna get raked if I try and sell mine despite all the sweet components I swapped for.

I use a Specialized cage, rib cage I think, with a camelbak bottle that has a little mouthpiece cover to keep the mud off. Never dropped a bottle and no mud in my mouth. I wouldn't let the bottle mounts stop you from buying such a fun bike.

I bought the Bontrager fanny pack recently that one of the PB editors wrote about for short rides... single bottle in the center of the pack and less intrusive than a BP. I wear both the BP and the fanny, and got those Specialized K.E.G.s to hold other stuff, but a tube wont fit it in easily. I must say though that having a bladder full of water on my back saved me a few times when I fell on my back.

Cheers,

Got a lidded bottle and it's all good, you definitely need a lid though!

On another frame shape based issue, what is everyone doing for rear/trunk mount car racks?

The horizontal struts will be supporting the rear shock, which seems like a bad idea. Would rather a temporary/cheaper alternative than getting a hitch and hitch rack.

I have a Thule lockable model that can hold up to 4 bikes, but really no more than 3 MTBs. Just buy one of those top tube adapters that supports the seat and stem for $30 or so. I use one sometimes even on my bike stand if I don't want to clamp my dropper post.

I don't use mine anymore since I got a couple of hitch racks, but I keep mine folded up and ready to go just in case.
