Hey guys

Thinking of getting the Giant Contact Switch dropper post (150mm drop). Just wondering if its any good? I have the 2015 one on my Reign 2 and the cartridge has failed. Just concerned they may not last?

Heres the link:

Thanks.

They are passable product, but not good. There are both better and worse droppers. Had one for 2 seasons, got new one on warranty after each season. If you're on the budget, and your LBS can deal with warranty, go for it. If not, avoid.

Recommendation for a similar priced dropper?

I'd recommend you save for something better. Like OneUp or SDG Tellis. Or a bit pricier like 9Point8 or BikeYoke.
Each dropper mentioned has stellar reputation for reliability

I replaced my Contact 125mm with a Contact 150mm and I personally like the way it moves through its travel compared to many higher end models including Thompson and Reverbs. Especially considering the price point.

The Shop I'm at we regularly warranty the cartridges inside the contacts, so they're ok if you have good shop support but we find that most posts in that range and cheaper will be built similarly and fail similarly. If someone is looking for a real upgrade then the Thompson is our first pick. They're a machine shop who build shit for the aerospace industry so their QC is out of this world. Don't get a reverb, they are distributed by PSI in Australia (along with all SRAM product) who suck to deal with so when it does get squishy (inevitable) theyll drag ass on it.

Considering price, it is very well worth it and works as good as any 2x price dropper - if you use it often, after 4 years almost any dropper will fail, get some freeplay left-right or need a rebuild.
Cheapest is to replace cartridge (50-60$ around here) and be good for another 4 years... :-)
