2011 Stumpjumper FSR for a comeback?

I am coming back into the sport after 6ish years. Previously I rode a ton of "all mountain" and some DH in Copper Harbor Michigan while I was in college. I now live in Souther michigan where things are much more flat and pedally... I know this isnt the PERFECT bike but I have a chance to grab an old 2011 stumpy fsr for super cheap. Looking to slowly get back into the game with the end goal of buying a newer stumpy and building a DH rig for trips back up north.


Question is with 26" tires and outdated geometry what else can you guys tell me about the 2011 stumpy? With everything going on right now I dont want to spend much on a bike until things settle down and cash flow gets back to normal but im itching to ride and want to get out ASAP! so is this a Solid bike to progress back into the sport for super cheap so I can get out and start riding now? Does it have any major known issues or reasons I should look elsewhere? The closest bike I would have owned to this was a Kona Tanuki but I was a big fan of that bike for what it was!

How cheap? 2011 is pretty old for a mountain bike, and like you said, 26" wheels, outdated geo, relatively basic suspension and in general older standards make for a pretty sketchy ride compared to what the stump jumper and most bikes are today. If this is just a transition bike until things are normal again, go for it. if you're thinking of riding this bike for a long time, I'd spend a bit more money and get something slightly newer. you'd honestly be better served on a modern (2016 and newer by my standards) aggressive hardtail than an old full sus. I doubt you'll be held significantly back by the stump jumper, but I personally think you'll have more fun on something newer.
