I’m looking for change my rockshox rc3 for a coil shock. Maybe a fox dhx2 . Do you think my patrol will be more plush?

In my experience, coil is always more plush than an air can. You’ll likely lose the instant pop-ability your ‘17 patrol has, but you’ll enjoy the cornering traction, small bump compliance, and more.

I want to pick up this topic again.
I ride a 2017 patrol. Mostly i have to earn my downs, but it's 90% fireroad. the Downs are natural rogh stuff. Some straight lines and some twitchy turns but more or less never without roots and holes. A few times a year i go ride in a park or shuttle assisted, but even there i prefer to ride the rough enduro/dh stuff.
After all these years and all the clearance sales atm i'm wondering if i should buy a new bike. but it's like, the patrol is a great bike and i'm not sure how i should benefit with a new bike. so i was looking for a coil damper to maybe gain more of a dh bike feeling.
I found one for around 300$, built for 2017 patrol.
So i'm looking for reviews of patrol 2017 owner with a coil. Does it make a big difference to the superdeluxe? Is it worth to spend 300$ on a 6 year old bike?
What are your opinions?

I can't vouch for the coil option, but I did add a RockShox MegNeg air can to my Super Deluxe on my '17 Patrol. I've considered the coil option a number of times, but always stuck with the air shock for a number of reasons. The upgrade to the MegNeg air can definitely improved small-bump sensitivity and traction - maybe not as much a coil would, but for a third of the price, I'm happy with it.

For what it's worth, the '17 Patrol is a bit of a unique beast - the progressivity curve and kinematics of the suspension are quite different from the prior generation ('15 to '16) or the following generation ('18 to '20). I personally prefer my '17 over the longer newer ones, and it's a nice change of pace to my '16 Stumpjumper FSR when I want to ride tech trails. I tend to keep my bikes longer than most people, since I upgrade and swap parts liberally to match my own preferences, so I plan to have mine for some years to come.

I've found the stock Super Deluxe a really good fit with the 2017 Patrol. Becuase the BB is really low, and I'm pretty heavy at 200 pounds, I tend to use the 3 way setting on the shock quite a bit. As others have said, it's interesting that Transition went back to the suspension kinematic curve of the 2017 in it's most recent iteration of the Patrol. Maybe that tells us something about it's effectiveness with an air shock as is.

Somewhat unrelated, but I think these older Patrols are great candidates for the insnae blowout prices on 2022 Fox Factory suspension on sites like Jenson. I picked up a 27.5" Fox 38 for my Patrol and I love it.
