I have a new Trek Rail 9.8 and I love the bike but the paint/clear coat sucks. I had a small rock kicked up by the front tire bounce off my leg and hit the chain stays and it looks like someone hit the bike with a hammer. I’m not a new bee I’ve had lots of bikes and None of them have had big Chunks of paint taken off the bike like this. I believe this is a defect in Trek’s Paint Process that when I contacted them they Sounded like they did not want to help me or warranty the problem. This is a $8000.00 bike and they should stand behind the bike and right now I’m not happy and don’t even wanna ride my new bike anyone ever had Similar problems with Trek paint on the bikes

My project one frame got some pretty nasty paint chips on the downtube. Kind of sucks, but try not to let it bother me. Cant see them when I'm riding it

Unfortunately this is a well known issue since years, Trek paint is not strong at all.
Not sure why Trek doesn't make any move to fix it.

Had simular issues with my Remedy and also the Fuel 2020. Big flakes coming loose.

It is what it is at this point. Trek stores help on everything except the paint. Probably because they can say it’s user error/ crash etc...

My first session frame ended up being warrantied due to the awful paint flaking so they sent me a new frame. Unfortunately it seems to be doing the same as like you say you barely touch it and chips/flakes come off. Not great really as its obviously a problem with their paint so not sure why they haven't changed the process.
