So, I sent my 2019 Trek Ex 5 a little (waaaay) too hard and taco’d both of my wheels. I am going to buy I9 wheels and while I’m dropping serious money on those, I was curious if anyone had built an enduro bike out of a trail bike before. Besides more travel in front and rear, does anyone see any problems with this? Any foreseeable problems?

I’m running a 160 yari on mine right now and it’s alright, but it’s still a little under gunned for my local enduro tracks. Dh tires front and rear with Cush core helps too, but not a lot. If you’re trying to make it more enduro, wheels, suspension and tires are the best place to start because the fuel ex 5 needs those upgrades badly. You can pull the 2.5mm travel reducer from the shock, but the rockshox shock on there sucks, same with the recon. Bare minimum for an enduro ready rig you’ll need a new fork, wheels (which you’re already getting), and tires.

Looking at the specs, it might be a good idea to get wider bars if you haven’t already

here ya go.

2019 fuel ex5. 27.5
minion dhr up front
pictured with a Conti mountain king 2.4 in the rear but that's been swapped out to a Conti Der baron
800mm Renthal fat bar
45mm FUNN stem
cane creek helm fork currently set at 170mm for bike park duties, but I usually have it at 150mm
stock rear shock (works fine for me, no issues)
Shimano ice rotors with upgraded brake pads..I forget which ones. stops fine.
chester pedals, not bad, good for the money

I ride this bike for everything...bike parks (killington, mountain creek, highland, thunder mountain) trail riding, urban street. works great

With this being my first full build, I’ll probably use yours for some inspiration.
