I have a 2019 Trek Roscoe 8 (boost141) with stock Bontrager Line 40 wheels.

I’m looking to upgrade my rear wheel to increase engagement, lessen rotational weight, move to 2.4/2.6 width tires, and just try something new.

I have my choice narrowed down to:
crankbros synth alloy with i9 hub: https://www.crankbrothers.com/collections/synthesis-alloy/products/synthesis-e-i9-alloy-rear-wheel?variant=31277665222752

industry nine trail s : https://industrynine.com/wheels/mountain/trail-1-1

I assume both are a good upgrade over the stock wheel and I’m leaning towards the industry nine wheels because they can ship with the 141 endcaps. What you all would pick in this situation?

Current budget is around $500 is why i am looking at just the rear wheel right now.

I would go i9 for sure. Everyone I know that has their stuff loves it.

Yeah, partially worried this leads to an i9 addiction.

Now unless you are set on those two exact wheelsets - you should be able to purchase a pair of wheels for $500-$600. For example, here's a wheel builder on Pinkbike:

Also you can look on the buy/sell pages for a new takeoff wheelset.

I had not thought about or looked at that option mostly due to ignorance.

Thank you for giving me a starting point to learn more and better understand my options.
