Trying to buy a used bike and checking bicycle Blue Book values. They seem to be way low. Even for bikes sold on BicycleBluebook.com. Like haldf of the price of what people are asking. Is there a better way to determine a fair price for a used bike?
Hi, I was just researching flipping bikes and the general consensus seemed to be that Blue Book Values aren't that useful. If you're buying local, there are too many variables around supply and demand for local riding styled bikes. In addition, the components on a bike can make a significant difference on the cost. So, use it as a point of reference.
I would be looking at various sites for bike prices like Craigslist, Facebook, Offerup...etc. Even if the bike isn't local, it will give you a ballpark. Make note of the condition of the bike and if there has been any major upgrades to the bike. Create a list and you'll probably get close to a fair price after pricing 3-5 of them.
