Hi everyone, I’m new to mountain biking and biking in general, I’ve just picked up my 2021 Trek Marlin 7 and I’m looking into adding some must have accessories and other components to upgrade. I know there’s tons of options but I’d like to know some notable brands to shop from and what you all recommend. Mounts, grips, saddle, etc.

Grips and saddle first. The. Best bang for your buck would be like a dropper post and then a 1X crank and a 12 speed changeover

Could you go into more detail on the 1X crank 12 speeds over..I noticed I only have 10 gears and I wanted more how do I go about the changeover. Also dropper post brands?

Hey there, congrats on your new bike!
As mentioned above, i wouldnt dilly dally with a 1x12 drivetrain on that bike. This is a great bike for getting your feet wet and really seeing if you enjoy the sport. I would change the tires for more of a "real mtb" tread, such as a pair of Maxxis or Schwalbes. I dont know if the model year 21's have tubeless tires (I work at a trek dealer) but if they are then you're already ahead.
- make sure you set the fork for your weight (sag)
- bed in the brakes!
- better tires (tubeless?)
- Ride it!!

Thanks for the information, I was curious about the 1x12 drivetrain due to where I would be riding. I live by a bike trail which is where I would be cruising around on pavement then it leads to off road trails. I would be splitting my time between both of these. Given that I will be on and off road should I be focused on switching the drivetrain and incorporating any other accessories?

I wouldnt put any money into the drivetrain. Im pretty sure that bike has a square taper bottom bracket so you would not only need a new shifter, derailleur, sram nx 12 speed cassette (since you have an HG driver), but you would also need new cranks, bottom bracket and chain wheel. Not worth it to be putting that much money into an entry level frame.
Focus on riding, then maybe a set of better tires and brakes.

Can anyone assist me on adjusting my Preload on the Marlin 7. I know it had to do with your weight. I’m 5’10” and weight 170. I’m not sure how to exactly adjust it to the perfect setting.
