OK, I've seen some weights thrown around, but does anybody have hands on experience as to the ACTUAL weight of the 11-42t M4100, and will it be replacing the HG-500 cassette? The HG-500 was a great cassette, no issues. Cheap as borscht, good range, etc. How is the M-4100 different? I've seen some sites say 360g, but that seems stupid light for an all steel ringed cassette, although Shimano mentions an aluminum carrier. The HG-500 version is around 430g. Also, anybody have the weight for the 11-46? They could have knocked it outta the park if they had some closer ratios on the 11-46.
Posting here because it was one of the first Google results for HG-500 vs CS-M4100, and I had the same questions.
Per this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXjMV9uG81c
503g
And, per this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTnStOMdlx8
524g for the 11-46 version
Looks like the major difference is the alloy big cog on the HG-500. I have run the HG-500 for a few years on my 10-speed CX bike, for gravel use.
FYI, there used to be a Praxxis 10-40t that's only 350ish grams (don't feel like pulling mine to weight it right now). This is my gravel race cassette. https://www.modernbike.com/praxis-works-wide-range-10-speed-cassette-11-40t
there is also a SunRace CSMX3 TAY that claims to be 393g. And, a CSMS3 TAY that claims 448, but I'd go HG-500 every time over the Sunrace.
