Love EX471's. Havent tried the fr560. Had no luck w/ EX511 b/c width dinged bead w/ DH casings but narrower 471 hold up better (multiple attempts). Maybe the fr560 wpuld be good, but im settled at 471 DH tires, no inserts. Best weight/time/money for enduro race weekends Ive found.

Grosey,

Liked your post. Tell us a bit more please.

What type of bike, type of terrain and your weight? Do you think lighter or heavier riders would have the same experience regarding the the EX471 vs EX511?

I am a 250 lb rider and have considered all 3 of the rims mentioned in this thread.

Interested to hear others thoughts on the fr560 as well.

Im 185-190, running an enduro bike (been on sb5.5 and a sentinel last 2 seasons). BMX background. Tendency to push into rocks from habit of pumping backside on the 20 - that destroys mtb wheels.

Riding Angel Fire bike park, southern enduro tour (TX/AR mostly). Angel fire is smoother than much of the central TX stuff, but definitely faster. Central TX (where most riding races happens) is short bursts, steep-flat-steep sections, lots of square edge rocks and consequence for being off line.

I think rider weight definitely plays a roll, as does how fast you are. Jokingly but seriously if you don't have to run DH casings to not get flats your not going fast (at least in the rocks around here). Thats more between me and BMX friends, ex BMX wannabe pros that are over 180. We had a lightweight guy who beat rude at a BME and he could run EXO's - he's 155-160. In short - yes. Weight matters.

Narrow vs Wide - completely grasping at straws -consensus with my group is that the casing doubles over more often and you get less snake bites. May also be you run a bit more pressure to avoid sidewall squirm. I like around 24F/28R on assegai/DHF DH casings.

The only real way to know is try. I wouldn't sweat weight as much. The FR w/ DH casings are something Ive thought about, just never tried. 471 os almost 100g lighter, and the end of 2 big days I appreciate it. I know it works for me. Weight is about the same as carbon, inserts, lighter rubber - but chancing a broken rim or a torn tire isnt worth it (inserts aren't bad on 30mm wide rims 25 and its a pain in the ass).

While cafienated, also noting that inserts haven't been the grail promised as far as Im concerned. I can only drop a few PSI before feeling sidewall squirm, so whats the point? Cantbtell huge difference then. Only insert that I felt smoothed out stuff was procore w/ exo and that cant take a cactus thorn (punctures procore so SOL).

471's and dh casings. Cheap. Dependable. Look at Hart, bruni....
