How to make good chain lube?

Not really...i ride in basically beach sand and find i use to much. You might be over maintaining. But try looking up hot wax formulas, those stay on forever and keep your chain nice.

I don't believe it's economically practical to create your own lubricant. It helps to use the proper lubricant for the riding area - dry lube for dry conditions, wet for wet. Wax is supposed to be good too, maybe more work to apply.
If you use a lot then you may find a very inexpensive alternative to use rather than buying a bike specific lube. Bike specific stuff always has a higher price in my experience.
I have a friend that swears by synthetic motor oil - sounds ridiculous I know. He has a big jug of it and uses a little sriracha bottle to apply the oil to his chain. He cleans his chain weekly - the oil attracts dirt - but it works for him. He's been using motor oil for years and doesn't have any complaints. I'm not saying motor oil is good for your situation, but thinking outside the bike specific market may reveal economic alternatives to manufacturing your own lubricants.
