Took a real slight spill on my Stumpy EVO the other day and somehow managed to place a small ding in the seat stay just below the brake mount. I’m not overly familiar with the intricacies of carbon layup but I would imagine that area (being right below the brake mount) would be relatively robust from a structural standpoint? Any thoughts on cosmetic vs potentially significant damage? At first glance it looks like nothing. I don’t care from an aesthetic standpoint; my bikes are going to get beat up to some degree. I’m more concerned with actual damage.

Ultimately, I understand it would take hands on viewing from an expert to determine if it’s fine or not but I’m curious of others’ experience with carbon chips and scrapes and differentiating cosmetic damage from potentially structural damage for future rides. Second image gives a better proportion in size of the ding (the deepest part probably isn’t even a mm in depth; but did expose some fibers). Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks fine to me. Barely through the paint. You could always ask your LBS.

Word, thanks for the input. Was curious to see other's opinions on it (obviously for my own reassurance), as I felt the same initially; right after it happened. I'll probably run it by a shop soon just to get another set of eyes as well. Thanks again.
