We are getting closer to the first World Cups in 2021 and besides the Corona-Virus it seems like (at least the bigger racers) will take place.
Normally Cape Epic would be in full swing but that is postponed until later in the year. In the last weeks the first races in Italy, Spain and Turkey already took place and because the CE does not take place and a lack of some races? the strenght of competition is huge.
It seems like Victor Koretzky is already in great shape as he took already 4 wins out of 5 races. Only rider to beat him to this date was Lars Forster. This weekend will (hopefully) be the C1 race in Obergessertshausen/Germany which has a ridiculous strong line up in both the men's and women's race.
I'm very curious in what shape Nino Schurter will be as one saw very little from him this fall/winter. Also curious about MvdP. No MTB races for him last year and with impressive performances on the CX and road bike already.
In the women's field there also seems to be some young, strong women like spaniard Rocio del Alba Garcia/, czech rider Tereza Tvaruzkova or russian rider Kristina Ilina. They did all very well in the early races, but we'll need to see how they perform in the world cup.
This year will be interesting and odd with COVID carrying over from last year and now this year is suddenly an Olympic year. Early season results may be skewed because some riders are overly ambitious to get back to racing and others may be holding for a big peak late July.
