I’m from Northern California heading down to San Diego Saturday March 20. Looking for some good intermediate trails to ride. Any suggestions?
Staying near the Harbour in San Diego but I have a car and don’t mind travel for good bike riding
Thanks Brewman
Trails around San Diego are way different than those in Northern California and there's a lot of variety too. My first recommendation is to look at the Trail Forks map of the area - there's a lot to choose from. If you want mountain biking trails and your staying near the harbor then you'll definitely need to drive to find a trail. Without any knowledge of the kind of riding your keen on I'll just make a few suggestions to start you off: Balboa Park Sweetwater Reservoir Los Peñasquitos Canyon Mission Trails Black Mountain
Anderson Ted Williams Steele bridge-sweetwater Scary House
but if you are time-limited, hit the trails Greer ranch has to offer.
Good suggestions for the OP, but they may have a tough time finding Greer, Teds or Scary on Trail Forks (hidden trails for whatever reasons). The OP would either have to use Strava heatmaps to find them or need to be led to the locations which may be a cool meet-up opportunity. Also Greer is north of Temecula - at least an hour away depending on traffic, may be too far away.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve got gps pins from friends in the area. If any one is going to be riding in those areas, and wouldn’t mind a tag along, let me know

Just want to mention the weather - we've been getting rain in SD recently and snow up in the mountains. If you consider heading to Mount Laguna, or Cuyamaca Rancho State Park (that's Noble Canyon territory) then the trails may be soggy. Plus there's chances of rain Saturday. I don't advocate trail riding when it's muddy - the damage will last most of the riding season. I am praying it doesn't rain between now and the weekend.
I’m in San Diego. 61 degrees now. Ted Williams has been mentioned by many.
Enjoy the trails! Be advised at Teds - some are considered "downhill only" and while I haven't encountered anybody accidentally riding up one of them it's possible because there are no signs. Let us know how it goes.
If you don't mind an hour drive, then Greer Ranch is well worth it. I like it far better than anything I've ever ridden in San Diego, including Ted's. Since it's not really a secret anymore, I'll tell you where to park. The rest will be obvious: just follow the next group of dudes up the main climb. From San Diego, take I-15 North to I-215 in Murrieta. Continue north for about 5-6 miles and exit on Scott Road. Turn right, right again on Antelope Road, and then right at Keller. Proceed under the freeway and turn left on Scenic View Drive. Welcome to MTB paradise in SoCal.
Sounds like you hit some of the popular spots. Bernardo Peak climb is no joke. The Lake Hodges area is okay when the hikers, walkers and families are absent. It's usually crowded though.
Take a look at Mission Trails Regional Park. There are some fun trails there for all different riding types.
Mission trails is terrible for mountain biking other than the dirt jump area
E-Ticket is fun if there's been rain within the previous 4 hours. Other than that Mission Trails is just a bunch of fire roads, some more eroded than others.
Really wishing I could checkout the reworked Black Widow. I used to ride the SD area 4-5 times a year but haven't been since the plague hit.
