Converting a 29er hardtail into a gravel-ish bike

Hey all, looking for some advice here.

I want a gravel bike, but with the current inventory situation, I haven’t found one anywhere near me in my budget.

Therefore, I had this idea of converting my Scott Scale into a bike for gravel/farm road miles.

I was thinking of doing an Enve rigid fork, and that’s about as far as I got!

Currently i’m running 1x11 XT, which I think I will keep, but what are your recommendations for tires, maybe upgraded wheels, and any better fork than the Enve?

Thanks!

Wheels and tyres will make the biggest difference to forward momentum so spend your money there. I don’t have a gravel bike so not down with what’s hot in the tyre department but if going fast is the plan then build the lightest wheelset you can get away with and run the lightest/slickers tyres that will do the job, you may want to keep the suss fork as I’ve seen a few gravel bikes riding forest trails near me running suss forks to remove the trail buzz. Consider a set of bar ends (ergon??)to got you further over the front and help with sprinting and climbs.

I would keep the suspension fork you have on it, maybe up the pressure or if it locks out then use that. I have a gravel bike that spends 98% if its life on the road. Once the terrain isn't semi well groomed fire rides the rigid front mixed with skinny tire's isn't much fun. As above, nice light wheelset with some light duty tires will be great!

Any updates? I’m considering the same thing with my 14 Scott Scale

I did a conversion with my 2011 Redline D660... I am running an XT 1x10 drivetrain with TRP Hylex brakes and a Gevenalle 1X shifter...since the pic, I have changed the fork to a Surly Krampus.

Keep the suspension fork

I am Dubious if the drop bar is worth it, maybe flattish bars with bar ends etc

my current gravel bike(which I almost never ride)is a Scott speedster Gravel, unfortunately I got it just before the GRX group set came out some its an odd mix of 105 etc

Walmer bars and Specialized power saddle
