I’m looking for some strength reviews on carbon wheelsets and more specifically rims around 90-100mm.

I’m currently running 100mm clown shoes laced to salsa hubs with tubeless 4.8 Jumbo Jims. I like them other than the fact that they are heavy af.

Bike is a Motobecane Night Train Ti with a bluto. 150/197 axles. I weigh about 150lbs, and riding style is like a bull in a china shop... if any of that matters.

I live on the beach so naturally my favorite thing to do is go huck myself off dunes, monster truck my way over large pieces of driftwood and run down an invasive Lupin bush when the mood strikes.

I like this bike so much I’m thinkin of making it my quiver killer but anyway...

Whats a big carbon rim that can handle being hucked, will shave some weight compared to clown shoes and ideally not cost an arm and a left nut?

Also, anyone run hookless beads?

I was looking at Light Bicycle rims but I like the fact that my tires lock hard into the beads of my clown shoes so they don’t burp as easy when I fubar the landing on a hip jump or otherwise get a little too loose. Seems hookless wouldn’t be the get down for my riding but maybe someone has experience with this.

Anyone ride Ican or Nexties? Spotted some Icans laced to Powerway M74 hubs for like $680. Might be a steal if they don’t explode first hit. They also have them laced to DT hubs but its $790 for that set and they are heavier according to specs so iono bout that extra benji. You guys tell me though. Do I gotta drop a grand and a half for something that could reasonably survive a few hits or should I just send it with whatever is cheapest and assume they are all made in the same factory in Shenzhen?

You guys seem to have a ton of fun out there. Nice edit and great riding! I am running a Whisky rear and Nextie front but 65mm wide for 27.5 & 26 rims. No issues but I definitely don't have the terrain and built features that you do.

I have a LightBicycle 27,5" (high profile) wheelset since June and had no problem with the "hookless" profile. As far as I remember mounting, it had some sort of hook after all and was not perfectly vertical at the sides.
I asked the manufacturer to make some reinforcement for aggressive riding and we agreed upon two extra layers of carbon for the rear wheel and one extra layer for the front.
I ride natural (rocks, roots) trails with this bike, haven't visited bikeparks yet so I cant tell what happens on supported hard corners (berms). They hold great on flat and off-camber turns though.
I have zero issues with the wheelset, although I had a few hard landings on some fast rocky descents recently. I felt like I was "bottoming out" the tires so stopped and checked but there was nothing to see at.
