Q1 - Air Pressure I have a SRAM RockShox Super Deluxe Rear shock (trunion mount) 205 x 62.5.
This was to be an upgrade on my Giant Trance running a Fox DPS Float shock.
I'm about 65kg (without trail gear, so around 140 pounds).
Checking SRAM guides/videos it states to set the air pressure at 100PSI and cycle the shock a few times and then pump it to desired pressure for rider weight. However even at 100 PSI the shock doesn't move at all, yes I have checked the lockout etc and ensure it is in the correct position (fully open).
I dropped the air pressure further down to 50PSI and could get the shock to move maybe 1mm.
I have removed the shock from the bike and put the Fox back in. Removing all the air from the RockShox Super Deluxe via the top air valve and ensuring the speed return is set to fast I can only just about compress the shock with my body weight pressing through the shock against the floor.
This doesn't seem normal as with zero air I was expecting to be able to move this freely with just my arm strength. Anyone got any ideas about how to go about resolving this or even some hints / tricks to try??
Q2 - knocking Sound
I have also read about the "Super Deluxe Knocking issue" and with the shock removed from the bike rotating it 180 degrees you can hear something moving inside and it coming to a stop (with a slight knock noise)
Q1. The IFP has pressurised air in it, that stops oil from cavitation. You'll still be pushing against this.
Q2. This seems to be a common issue (poor design from RS) with the spacer that reduces travel, in our case from 65mm to 62.5mm, moving up and down the shaft Internally. You can see this spacer easily within the air can. It should be held tight to one end with a rubber O ring (my RS!?) but the O-ring isn't tight enough.
A question for you... Do you hear the knocking when you're riding? Mine knocks and sounds horrible sometimes.
